Man Made of Beans
In Tortilla Flat, by Steinbeck, a school nurse is shocked to find out that a prolific breeder of children- a woman in her 20s with 10 kids (under 10), feeds her kids almost exclusively beans (of various types). For the young 'wrigglers' (infants and toddlers), they eat beans directly from the wooden floorboards. When a doctor is sent around to test all of the kids for health, he is alarmed to find them to be the healthiest bunch of kids he has ever seen; teeth, hair, strength, energy etc. So, to better my idea of eating my bodyweight in vegetables, and to use the Steinbeck novel as a narrative, I'm going to eat exclusively my bodyweight in a variety of beans (only).

My Dad, artist-truckie
My Dad, like yours, is one a kind; interstate truck driver that's also a lifelong, well known artist. He has driven a truck for 50 years to supplement his hand-to-mouth artists life. There's a lot I've learnt from Dad as an observer of life, and so to connect the dots between filmmaker-outdoorsy-son, to artist-trucker-father, this film projects is about how we often mirror the mentors in our life, even in different ways. It's also to take a few more truck trips with Dad as he winds down on interstate driving, to talk about the world, art and politics, backdropped by Australian landscape at 95k an hour.
